Nitroprusside-PEO enthalpic interaction as a driving force for partitioning of the [Fe (CN) (sub 5) NO] (super 2- ) anion in aqueous two-phase systems formed by poly(ethylene oxide) and sulfate salts
Article Abstract:
The partitioning behavior of pentacyanonitrosylferrate (II) anion, [Fe(CN)(sub 5)NO](super 2-) was studied in aqueous two-phase systems(ATPS) formed by poly(ethylene oxide) of molar mass 3350 and 35000 g mol(sup -1) and various sulfate salts. It was observed that the partition coefficients increased exponentially with tie-line length increase, reaching values as high as 1000 and showing a relationship very dependent on the salt nature, but independent of the polymer molar mass.

Montmorillonite-poly(ethylene oxide) nanocomposites: Interlayer alkali metal behavior
Article Abstract:
X-ray diffraction, TGA-DTA, and (super 7)Li and (super 23)Na NMR data is presented for PEO nanocomposites made with natural and synthetic montmorillonite clays that provide new insight into interlayer structure. (super 23)Na NMR shows that PEO intercalculation results in the conversation of the multiple Na(super +) hydration states observed for the prostine clay into inner sphere sites most likely formed through coordination with the basal oxygens of the clay.

Structures of linear poly(ethylene oxide) compounds and potassium complexes in dichloromethane
Article Abstract:
Computer simulations are used to investigate the high-resolution H-1 NMR spectra of various types of linear oligo(ethylene oxide) compounds. The results have indicated that all the methylenes of the ethylene oxides are immobilized by the coordination to the metal ion, thus confirming that all oxygens of poly(ethylene oxide) (POE) are participating in the complex formation.
